How does Locket stay safe for teens?

Learn more about how Locket has been designed to be safe and positive for everyone

Updated today

Locket helps your teen connect with their best friends and share authentic moments from their lives. It's our top priority to make Locket safe, positive, and fun for everyone. That's why we've intentionally designed the app to avoid many of the drawbacks of traditional social media, like algorithmic feeds, stranger danger, and social pressure. This means your teen can continue to have fun connecting with their friends, while staying safe and feeling positive about their experience.

Here's an overview of how Locket prioritizes safety and positivity for teens:

1. Best friends only, no strangers

Locket is intended to be used only with close friends, not strangers. In fact, there is no way for your teen to meet new people, discover new friends, or search for other users who they don't already know on the app.

Instead, friends on Locket can only be added from your phone's address book, by sharing your unique invite link, or by sharing your exact username. This helps ensure that everyone your teen adds on Locket is someone they already know and trust in real life. Think of it like a phone number: only people you share it with can contact you.

2. Authentic & positive content

On Locket, there's no like counts or social pressure, so teens can express themselves without feeling judged. Because Locket is used with close friends, there also aren't the pressures that come from posting to hundreds (or thousands) of acquaintances, like on other apps. This means Locket can be a safe space for your teen to share fun, authentic moments from everyday life with the people who matter to them.

3. No public, algorithmic feeds

Locket doesn't have a public, algorithmic feed that serves content based on your teen's interests. Instead, every piece of content Locket was shared by a friend, shown in chronological order. Your teen can see what their friends are up to, without being overwhelmed by endless content from across the internet.

4. No infinite scrolling

Similarly, Locket doesn't have an infinite scrolling feed that serves endless content. Once your teen sees the latest updates from their friends, it's easy for them to leave the app without getting sucked into endless scrolling. This means teens spend far less time browsing Locket than traditional social media apps.

5. Simple reporting and blocking

Photos, videos, chat messages, and comments can all easily be reported on Locket. All reported content is immediately reviewed using the latest AI technology and abusive content is removed + subject to human review. Read more about how your teen can report content here. It's also simple to block other users on Locket, which prevents them from contacting your teen again. Read more about blocking here.
